Ikat weaving is practiced widely in several villages across Nalgonda district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. Pochampalli, Koyyalgudem, and Siripuram are the most popular weaving villages in Nalgonda. Each village produces fabrics in different designs, colors and, textures. Ikkat weaving is a type of tie and dye fabric. Yarn is bundled and dyed to create patterns on the fabric during weaving. Ikkat weaving is a laborious and skilled process. Ikkat weaving is a multiple step process that involves cleaning and separating the yarn, tying, dyeing, weaving and performing quality checks.
